David Gayle: An English Ballet

An English Ballet edited by David Gayle, MBE Donna recently had the joy to be in contact again with her former teacher Mr David Gayle, MBE. After a career dancing with the Royal Ballet Mr. Gayle founded the Yorkshire Ballet Seminars and also ran the Royal Ballet School and was first co-ordinator of the Royal Ballet Summer School.

David edited the book, An English Ballet, written by Dame Ninette de Valois, which was published by Oberon Books last summer. It is available on Amazon, or direct from Oberon. After you purchase the book, if you contact Donna, she can arrange a book signing.

A Personal Message from Donna Schoenherr

Beginner 1 Pointe Class from Ballet4life Our new beginner pointe class has been a resounding success! I had the pleasure of teaching one evening recently and was really pleased to see everyone’s efforts. We are looking into adding a longer class.

I also recently enjoyed watching a rehearsal of the English Nation Ballet's new production of “The Firebird” by the young and I think a gifted choreographer George Williamson. This premières this month at ENO. Tickets are going fast! Also, one of our lovely Monday morning clients has a daughter in this upcoming production London’s Children Ballet. Please let us know if you are interested in attending either of these performances. We can book in as a group.

Thanks to Prisha and Lizzy who have been helping out at Ballet4Life! I am very grateful for their help and we are always on the look out for anyone who might wish to volunteer a few hours or for more work experience. If you know of anyone who might be suitable please have them send their details via email.

News and updates from our wonderful staff:
Angela’s Brixton lunch time class is gaining a great deal of popularity and we are pleased to have Ballet4Life’s presence established in South London now!

Maggie’s popular Wednesday evening drop-in class is doing well! Ballet4Life is thinking it might need to switch this over to an Intermediate/Advanced level since everyone has made such progress during the last year! Maggie’s Pointe class is also going strong. She has been out reviewing many ballet companies and pieces recently for Dance Europe. She shared with us reflections on her recent journeys which you can read online.

Haylee has settled back into life in her native New Zealand and is well and happy. She sends everyone her warm regards!

Our guest teacher Allen Fields did the choreography recently for a tv advertisement. We have an exclusive edit of just the dance section on our site. Watch online.
